Moving Objects Databases

چکیده
Moving objects databases are particular cases of spatiotemporal databases that represent and manage changes related to the movement of objects. Unlike spatio-temporal applications associated with geographic phenomena where the identity of geographic features may change over time, in moving objects databases the objects maintain their identities but change their locations or shapes through time. That is, it is the geometric aspect of an object that changes rather than the object itself. Within this domain, the most suitable applications are those where objects are cars, airplanes, or any object with regular movements. Traditional DBMSs are not well equipped to handle data about moving objects. One of the reasons is that DBMSs assume that data is constant unless an explicit modification occurs, and this assumption is not adequate for handling continuously changing data such as the locations of moving objects. In traditional DBMSs, it is difficult to specify queries about spatial and temporal information. For example, a query such as “retrieve the cars that will intersect at a particular location in an hour” is not easily expressed with SQL. Finally, location of a moving object is inherently imprecise because the location stored in the database cannot always be the actual location of the object (Wolfson, 2002). Unlike traditional database applications, moving objects applications involve the following requirements, which are a subset of spatio-temporal applications requirements (Pfoser & Tryfona, 1998):

Extending the Qualitative Trajectory Calculus Based on the Concept of Accessibility of Moving Objects in the Paths
Qualitative spatial representation and reasoning are among the important capabilities in intelligent geospatial information system development. Although a large contribution to the study of moving objects has been attributed to the quantitative use and analysis of data, such calculations are ineffective when there is little inaccurate data on position and geometry or when explicitly explaining ...
متن کاملStatistical Background Modeling Based on Velocity and Orientation of Moving Objects
Background modeling is an important step in moving object detection and tracking. In this paper, we propose a new statistical approach in which, a sequence of frames are selected according to velocity and direction of some moving objects and then an initial background is modeled, based on the detection of gray pixel's value changes. To have used this sequence of frames, no estimator or distribu...
متن کاملModelling Moving Objects in Multimedia Databases
In this paper we propose a new model for moving objects, aimed at handling video sequences in multimedia databases. The model integrates the representations of individual moving objects and the time-varying relationships between multiple moving objects in a scene. Several new query operators are defined within this model. Some examples illustrating the power of the model are provided.
متن کاملMoving Objects: Logical Relationships and Queries
In moving object databases, object locations in some multidimensional space depend on time. Previous work focuses mainly on moving object modeling (e.g., using ADTs, temporal logics) and ad hoc query optimization. In this paper we investigate logical properties of moving objects in connection with queries over such objects using tools from differential geometry. In an abstract model, object loc...
متن کاملQuerying Moving Objects with Uncertainty in Spatio-Temporal Databases
Spatio-temporal uncertainty is a special feature of moving objects due to the inability of precisely capturing or predicting their continuously changing locations. Indeterminate locations of moving objects at time instants add uncertainty to their topological relationships. Spatio-temporal uncertainty is important in many applications, for example, to determine whether two moving objects could ...
